Studio #2: The Fashion & Lace Museum (ex)poses itself!

Exhibition 28.08.20 > 24.05.21

What does the Fashion & Lace Museum hold onto in this day and age? How does the museum adapt to the spread of fashion by influencers or Fashion Houses? Which pieces are in our collections and why?

Trends move quickly in the fashion industry. However, fashion gains a different temporality in a museum, as fashion is of the present and thus cannot be fully represented by the presentation of collections or styles on the street. The major changes that have taken place over recent years have led us to question the future of the Museum: new materials and innovative techniques, an increase in the number of collections, a rise in the number of creators, influencers sharing fashion on a massive scale, etc. In your opinion, what is the role of a fashion museum? Please share your comments on our Facebook page.

The Museum regularly acquires new pieces to supplement its collections. They are analysed and identified; an inventory sheet is then created allowing them to be consulted as part of the inventory of movable cultural heritage of the Brussels-Capital Region.
