This area is dedicated to studying our collections, giving our visitors a better understanding of the items on display.

To complement your visit to the Triplex, the Studio is transformed into a real laboratory. Visitors are invited to experiment, touch, draw, etc. During various museum events, the space is transformed into a themed workshop, led by a designer, artist or facilitator.

During periods when the exhibition in the Triplex is closed, the Studio in turn offers a peek behind the scenes at the scientific work taking place on our collections. Museum curators take turns researching remarkable or forgotten pieces, the development or history of a particular item or fashion house, the journey of a restored work, and more.

Through these wide-ranging activities, the Studio aims to offer visitors insight into the museum's mission of conservation.

Studio 8: The Wittamer-De Camps and fashion

To mark the opening of its new Studio, the Fashion & Lace Museum invites you to immerse yourself in the world of Berthe De Camps and Louis Wittamer, a designer couple who typified a way of thinking about fashion in Brussels from the 1950s to 1970s.

Under the labels ‘Valens’ and ‘Jane d’Anjou’, their work ranged from adaptations of Parisian models to unique pieces. Their fashion house was particularly renowned for the quality of its embroidery on sumptuous wedding dresses and ball gowns, which regularly featured in newspapers of the time.

The Wittamer-De Camps and fashion not only highlights their best-known creations, but also offers a unique glimpse into their history. Through their works, the Studio reveals how the Brussels fashion sector designed itself to echo that of Paris, while also asserting its own identity.
