His attention drawn by chance to a piece put up for auction in Paris in 2018, Denis Laurent became interested in Jules François Crahay. Praised by the press, worn by the leading celebrities of his time, winner of three Dés d’or awards – a record! Why has this Belgian haute couture genius sunk into oblivion? To date, no work has been devoted to him, no museum has focused on his career. After five years of research, Denis Laurent tells us about his meticulous quest to restore the reputation of Jules François Crahay.
Exhibition curator and scientific director of Jules Crahay, Rediscovering A Grand couturier Denis Laurent is an art historian. He lectures on the history of design at the ENSAV La Cambre college of visual arts and the ULB. He has worked for the Brussels City Museums since 2018, in particular curating the exhibition Masculinities.
