An encounter with Emmanuelle Polle, journalist and independent exhibition curator. This conference examined the creations of Jean Patou, a designer and perfume maker who lived in Paris during the wars.

Jean Patou (1887-1936) was a modern man. His creations are timeless.

He invented sportswear, creating a surprising blend of style and comfort.

His Fashion House was among the largest in the 1920s. Louise Brooks, Josephine Baker and the Olympic tennis champion Suzanne Lenglen were all leading ambassadors of his creations.

In a jersey or lamé, a swimsuit or a golfing ensemble, the Patou woman was the embodiment of the “bachelor girl”. At the dawn of the 1930s, Jean Patou was the first to lengthen skirts in order to create a more glamorous silhouette.

Author of several radio documentaries and a monograph on the couturier, Jean Patou: Une vie sur mesure, Emmanuelle Polle was the first researcher to gain access to the Patou family’s private archives.
