Belgian avant-garde fashion has captured the attention of the industry. Of course, we are familiar with the names of Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester and  Raf Simons. But others like Haider Ackerman and AF Vandevorst are also making waves on the catwalk.

What topics were discussed during the conference “The Belgians: an unexpected fashion story”?

During the conference, Nele Bernheim revealed the unexpected story to us and examined the success of these Belgian creative designers.

She also highlighted the personal and artistic aesthetic of the greatest among them. Today, Ann Salens and the Antwerp Six still enjoy international recognition, as do their successors.

Nele Bernheim is co-curator of the exhibition “The Belgians: an unexpected fashion story” at Bozar, doctoral student in History and Art Science at the Universiteit Antwerpen and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
