Maison Martin Margiela Inventory

Exhibition 10.12.21 > 17.04.22

The enigmatic Martin Margiela chose to remain on the sidelines in favour of his creations. His visionary ideas and gaze turned the landscape of contemporary fashion upside down. The designer taught us to see fashion in a different way. He called into question the structure of garments, its archetypes, the stereotypes around size, elegance, good taste, morphotypes, our relationship to time and memory, etc.

Through a selection of garments from Maison Martin Margiela belonging to the Museum’s collection, Sonja Noël, owner of the STIJL store and of the first European store of Maison Martin Margiela, Franc’ Pairon, founder of the Cambre Stylism and Fashion Design Studio, and Lydia Kamitsis, fashion historian who launched the department of contemporary fashion at the Musée de la Mode de Paris, offer us a personal and tangible inventory of the Maison Martin Margiela while shedding light on the work behind the scenes of the scientific work of the Museum: the inventory of Maison Martin Margiela in the inventory of the Fashion & Lace Museum.
