Studio 3 : Color #1: Black

Exhibition 29.06.21 > 14.11.21

Androgynous or minimalist, chic and elegant, marginal or even rebellious, black is an essential part of our wardrobe, our social codes and our symbols.

Through 15 emblematic recent acquisitions, the Museum unveils its palette of shades of black. From the 1920s to contemporary creations, the multiple variations and interpretations of this color are here for you to discover. The famous little black dress reinvented by Gabriel Chanel leads us in to pieces by Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto, Ann Demeulemeester or even the iconic tuxedo for women by Yves Saint Laurent and Virgil Abloh’s version of the little black dress, introduced in 2018.

The most timeless and most enigmatic of shades inaugurates a series devoted to different colors.
