LOL by La Cambre Mode[s]

Exhibition 23.06.18 > 30.09.18

From 23 June to 30 September 2018, the LOL by La Cambre Mode[s] exhibition was held at the Fashion & Lace Museum in Brussels. Staged in the name of protest, the exhibition paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of May 1968. The famous Brussels school of fashion design took up residence in the Museum to show how societal revolutions that materialised in clothing have become LOL.

The exhibition showed how Cambre Mode(s) questions, diverts and shifts dress codes. All students use a shared vocabulary to form their own phrases.

Beyond the socio-political challenges, May 1968 also broke down barriers for the public, enabling them to approach the issues of body and sexuality. Fifty years later, through some strange backlash, we now find ourselves facing a juxtaposition between widespread personal freedom, on the one hand and a return to a prudish-like modesty on the other hand.

An exhibition that questions the body, nudity, sex and clothing… LOL.
