New at the Costume and Lace Museum
24 February 2006 > 21 August 2007
This exhibition, held as part of fashion year, provided a panoramic view of the history of fashion from the 18th to the 20th centuries through recent acquisitions and gifts. These previously unseen items constituted a remarkable, sometimes surprising series of clothes and outfits bearing makers’ labels, as well as fashion accessories, each telling its own story. These included a Givenchy cocktail dress that belonged to Princess Liliane de Réthy, a number of men’s embroidered waistcoats and coats from the 18th century, a series of Sabena air hostess uniforms designed by Olivier Strelli, woollen bathing suits from the 1930s, sports accessories and the handkerchiefs of queens.
