Beautiful Lace & Carine Gilson
Exhibition 10.07.19 > 19.04.20
In this new exhibition, the Brussels designer reveals what inspires her: the Garden of Eden and Japaneseinspired kimonos, as well as Art Nouveau and the works of famous painters. She talks about her encounters and her collaborations with high-flying artisans. She describes the
creative process for her sophisticated, luxury pieces. The codes of her Maison are implicitly revealed because, as with every Maison de Couture, a unique DNA runs through her three decades of creation.
Beautiful Lace & Carine Gilson offers an astonishing encounter between two key moments for lace, which has had the world's crème de la crème at its fingertips for the last 200 years. For the last 30 years in Brussels, Carine Gilson has been creating couture lingerie that combines silk and lace.
Carine GilsonAt the age of 23, Carine Gilson graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, where she had studied fashion. When she discovered Maille France, a small Brussels studio creating suits and petticoats, she immediately fell in love with the wonderful ancestral art of lace-making. She decided to take up this skill, committing to working with silk, lace and exceptional fabrics. To create exceptional lingerie of a rare elegance.
In 1994, she launched her Carine Gilson brand of couture lingerie. The press and the best international boutiques were quick to get on the bandwagon. Carine Gilson works with the finest materials, Caudry lace and Lyon silk from the best French spinning mills. Her chromatic range is unique and she ensures that each collection has an exclusive palette taken from her wildest dreams.
Carine Gilson opened her first boutique in Paris in 2004 and in 2011, London celebrated the opening of a Carine Gilson boutique in Belgravia. In 2018, Carine Gilson opened a new boutique on Boulevard de Waterloo in Brussels, designed by architects David & Nicolas. It is a world dedicated to Carine Gilson, her delicate clothing and her confident femininity, at the peak of sophistication.
In 2019, Carine Gilson is joining forces with the Maison de dentelle Sophie Hallette to design and create her own lace, which will be the brand's identity for its timeless signature pieces. She also celebrates 30 years of creation.
